Batar leo, dna, lenti lebra, laindera,
cuana coema cnesgela,
cunga, cori, comchoema. (Cogadh XCII)
They had on them, also, long, glossy, convenient, handsome, white, neat, well-adjusted, graceful shirts.
Perhaps the most striking feature of the Hiberno-Norse archery assemblage is the dominance of armour-piercing arrowhead types, first appearing in Dublin, at least -- in the later tenth century.
(...) 67% of all arrowheads from Hiberno-Norse Dublin are armour-piercing types, a striking proportion that is higher than that recorded in most contemporaneous excavated sites elswhere in Europe. (...) This is not indicates that Dublin was well in touch with the mainstream if European military development but also may raise questions about the use of armour by the Irish (...)
One must conclude either that the warriors of Hiberno-Norse Dublin were equipping themselves primarily for action outside of Ireland or that the extent of armour usage among the Gaelic Irish in the eleventh and twelfth centuries has been significantly underestimated...
